Fab Labs and Maker Spaces: Think, Imagine, Tinker, Create, Invent, Build … Repeat!

Simply put, a “Maker Space” is a work space where anyone can create, invent, make or build something: gadgets, robotics, art, technology, music, household goods, or the Next Big Thing.

These spaces are popping up across the globe and are called by a wide range of names: Maker Space, Fab Lab, Innovation Lab, Hackerspace, Tinker Space, Geek Lab or Community DIY Workspace. Often located in public libraries, schools and colleges, these maker spaces encourage imagination and “hands-on” creativity for any age group - from elementary students to senior citizens. Spaces are designed to encourage makers to collaborate and share tools and inspiration.

While each Maker Space/Fab Lab is unique, depending on the project focus and resources available, the majority will require: centralized group messaging and displays, typically using markerboards or bulletin boards; desks or small tables for small groups to collaborate; appropriate height workbenches and larger tables for equipment; storage for projects, tools, supplies and safety equipment; and computers and internet access. Mobile project carts, tables, workbenches and other furniture enable adaptable and flexible work spaces which may be reconfigured on-the-fly to accommodate a wide variety of projects.

From workbenches to trash cans, markerboards to robotics cabinets, activity tables to solvent storage lockers, and everything in between, K-Log has almost every piece of furniture necessary to outfit your maker space while staying within your budget. Our expert staff can help you choose just the right products to build a space to feed the imagination of “makers” and inspire creation. Need help?
