Four-Month Planner Board: A four-month planner board has a dry erase surface with four individual month templates for filling in the days and months to provide a four-month schedule. The planner board functions with standard dry erase markers and accessories and mounts to walls for convenience.

Interactive Whiteboard: Interactive whiteboards generally refer to computer-enhanced whiteboards that have touch-screen technology and connect with computer or other devices. These boards are also known as smartboards and come in mobile and wall-mount styles.

Locking Markerboard: Dry erase markerboards with enclosed cabinet, such as the conference cabinets and presentation wallboards, often include locks that secure the doors for safekeeping.

Low-Glare Markerboard: Low-glare markerboards reduce reflection of classroom lighting to enhance visual comfort and improve contrast with the dry erase markers.

Magnetic Dry-Erase Board: Magnetic dry-erase boards have a porcelain surface applied to a steel sheet creating the magnetic property of the writing surface. The writing surface accepts standard dry-erase markers and wipes clean with a dry eraser. Occasional cleaning with spray cleanser and cloth will help prevent ghosting or residual marks from deeper marker colors and maintain the premium writing surface.

Magnetic Markerboard: Magnetic markerboards are almost always made with the classic porcelain-over-steel design. The white writing surface functions with dry-erase markers, erasers, and cleaner for a reusable writing surface and the porcelain-over-steel construction allows magnetic surface properties for use with magnets as well.

These message boards typically mount to walls for convenient display use and have a variety of style options and sizes to suit different needs.

Mobile Combination Board: Mobile combination boards have multiple productivity components such as dry erase markerboard, bulletin board with tackable surface, or both. These boards are assembled with mobile frames that provide access to both sides of the two-sided board. The board may rotate on pivot-style hinges within the frame and lock in place for safe writing and use, or the board may be fixed in place within the frame and the base is turned completely around for access to the other side.

Mobile Markerboard: Mobile markerboards are one-sided or two-sided framed dry erase boards set on casters. The lower frame may contain a storage bin for dry erase markers, erasers, cleaner, and other supplies. The mobile markerboards may be magnetic or non-magnetic, to suit different needs and budgets.

Monthly Planner Board: Monthly planner boards have dry erase surface for use with dry erase markers and erasers, with permanent calendar template on the writing surface for filling in the month and days.

Music Line Board: Dry erase markerboards with music staff lines permanently marked on the writing surface are referred to as music line boards and allow use with dry erase markers, erasers, and other accessories for music class, training, practice, and band room. The framed music line board hangs or mounts on a wall for convenience and is also available in mobile frame styles.

Non-Magnetic Markerboard: Many non-magnetic markerboards are made with a rigid back and white dry-erase laminate writing surface. These markerboards offer the same dry-erase functionality as porcelain-on-steel markerboards but with lighter design and non-magnetic surface.

Reversible Board: Reversible boards generally contain two-sided mobile boards with matching dry erase markerboards on both sides or a combination style with one dry erase markerboard on one side and a tackable board on the other side. The frame may rotate within the mobile stand and lock in place for safe use, or the frame may be fixed within the stand and the entire stand is turned around for access to the opposite side.

Sliding Door Display Board: Display boards with two sliding doors offer space-saving access to the tackable or letterboard display interior. The two-door enclosure may be tempered safety glass or clear acrylic panels, depending on the design, and the doors lock for security.

Sliding Markerboards, Sliding Wall Boards: Larger dry erase board units with sliding markerboards have durable aluminum frames with sliding tracks to allow front markerboards to move side to side within the larger frame, providing access to the back markerboard(s).

Standing Markerboard: Standing markerboards are dry erase markerboards set within a portable stand and designed for comfortable stand-up use. Some standing markerboards have folding frames that accommodate tabletop or floor placement while others have mobile frames on casters for flexible use in busy or changing environments.

White Glass Board: The tempered glass dry erase board with white opaque design has a glossy surface for writing and complements the black glass writing board. Both styles offer a unique alternative to classic dry erase boards and both include standoff mounts that allow wall mounting in decorative but functional style.

Board Cleaner: Board cleaner comes in single-bottle and 12-bottle quantities to suit different location needs. Each bottle has a spray nozzle and cap and the cleaner protects the writing surfaces of markerboards or dry erase boards from marker stains, ghosting, and damage.

Casters: Casters provide mobility with four wheel-style casters supporting the base of many easels, mobile markerboards, partitions, and other elements. Most designs contain two locking casters to secure the mobile element in place for safe use and storage.

Concealed Hangers: Concealed hangers are hidden within or behind the frames of wallboards, chalkboards, markerboards, or display cases for a professional quality display on walls in office, school, classroom, or library.

Display Rails: Display rails are designed to enhance chalkboards, markerboards, and other classroom or lab wall boards, with a simple design that attaches to the wall above the boards or independently. The rails may be used separately or lined up end to end for longer support and each rail has a clip-like design for securing papers, posters, presentation elements, newspapers, and more.

Easels: Traditional easels have three-legged tripod-style frame with ledge for canvas or sketchpad. Modern easel options include bulletin board and white dry erase board components in two-sided frames with stable legs or mobile base set on casters. The mobile base options include a storage bin on many models for markers and other accessories. Many easels have two hooks at the top of one or both sides for connecting with a flip chart or large sketchpad.

Flip-Chart Hooks: Easels often contain two flip-chart hooks on one or both sides of the easel frame. The hooks are custom-placed to support flip charts or large sketchpads for classroom, art room, music, conference, and other uses. These hooks are unobtrusive to the design and functionality of the easel, in general.

Flush-Mount Locks: Flush-mount locks are installed within the frame of doors to reduce the appearance of a protruding lock. The flush-mount design is meant to rest flush with the front surface of the door panels for a neat appearance and secure enclosure.

Full-Length Marker Tray: Most markerboards and dry-erase board units have a full-length marker tray running from one side of the frame to the other, straight across the bottom of the frame. This ledge provides storage and access to dry-erase markers, erasers, and other essential accessories for efficiency and productivity support.

Glass Writing Surface: Glass markerboards offer a dry-erase writing surface with tempered glass design. The glass boards are made from low-iron glass for exceptional clarity and accommodate decorative wall mounts or invisible mounts. The glass writing boards come in magnetic and non-magnetic styles to suit any need.

Map Rail: Along the top of select chalkboards and markerboards is a tackable map rail, designed in classic bulletin board style with natural cork surface for use with tacks, pushpins, and staples. The map rail is generally very narrow and can be used to display posters, maps, projects, and other items in classroom, lab, library, or office.

Safety Corners: Safety corners are rounded to remove points, angles, and potentially sharp edges or corners for safer use in busy classrooms, labs, office buildings, and other locations. The rounded corners reduce risk of scratches, bumps, and injury while creating a softer appearance for high-quality contemporary style.

Security Locks: Security locks enhance most display boards, cases, bulletin boards, and other enclosed board units. The locks secure the case to prevent tampering or theft of displayed items, signs, artwork, or letters in the case of locking letterboard cases.

Sliding Doors: Sliding doors are generally fitted in a two-door overlapped frame assembly with each door in separate tracks for sliding access to one side or the other. The doors overlap as they are slid open and they lock in place for security. The doors are generally made of tempered safety glass or acrylic, depending on the style, and the sliding design provides space-saving access without the need for added room to accommodate hinged doors.

Construction Materials

Acid-Etched Back: Glass markerboards offer acid-etched backs, which create a non-glossy frosted backside appearance that enhances the front writing surface. The acid-etching process is similar to the process used to etch decorative designs in glass cups, mirrors, or other glass items.

Aluminum Frame: Aluminum frames for display boards, display cases, bulletin boards, chalkboards, and markerboards are generally made with anodized aluminum, treated to reinforce strength and provide thickness. The aluminum treatment also resists damage from exposure to the elements and corrosion. Some aluminum frames are painted or finished for stylish effect.

Aluminum Trim: Display boards and cases with aluminum trim feature frames and case designs made from anodized aluminum. The aluminum frame enhances shape and durability and supports extended use. Many aluminum frames include a full-length marker tray or storage tray along the bottom for pushpins, markers, erasers, chalk, or other accessories.

Anodized Aluminum: Anodized aluminum is aluminum metal that has been treated with an electrolytic process that thickens the metal and protects from exposure and corrosion.

Chip-Resistant Buffed Edges: Glass markerboards have polished edges and are tempered for durability and safety. The edges are chip-resistant to prevent accidental damage from everyday use.

Concealed Mounting Hardware: Mounting hardware that is concealed offers an attractive hardware-free mounted display of locking or open bulletin boards. The concealed mounting hardware is usually kept hidden by the board itself, similar to the concealed hanging elements on picture frames, framed artwork, and other wall hanging elements.

Environmentally Friendly Powder-Coat: Many metal cases, frames, and stands are finished with environmentally friendly paint that is finished or cured for a powder-coat surface. The color is non-glossy; contrasting with the baked-on enamel paint finishes, and creates an attractive, smooth style that lasts.

Invisible Mounts: Invisible mounts allow the glass markerboards to be mounted to walls without visible mounting hardware. The effect creates a contemporary style that is ideal for office and seminar settings or other professional use.

Left or Right Hinge Assembly: Display cases that offer left-hinge or right-hinge assembly are reversible to accommodate different locations, needs, preferences, or display arrangements. In this style, the door may be assembled to the left or the right side of the case, as desired. If the case is offered with left-hinge or with right-hinge, the cases must be ordered for the desired hinge assembly, indicating the door hinge is not reversible.

Low-Iron Tempered Glass: Low-iron glass has had most of the iron oxide removed from the component materials to create glass panels that are extremely clear. This glass is tempered for durability and to prevent shard-like breakage in the event of an accident. Instead, the glass breaks safely into tiny granules to reduce injury if broken.

Mylar Vapor Barrier: A Mylar vapor barrier reduces risk of damage from moisture and humidity by protecting the backside of the wallboard from moisture, humidity, and inclement weather conditions in a variety of environments.

Pivot Hinge with Lock Mechanism: Mobile two-sided markerboards and combination boards with a pivot hinge contain a lock mechanism that allows the board to be locked in place for safety. The lock mechanism prevents the pivot hinge from moving, keeping the board in place during use to reduce risk of accidents and injury. The pivot hinge allows the large boards to rotate in place, within the frame, and the lock secures the two sides of the boards to prevent unwanted movement.

Porcelain Enameled Surface: Porcelain enamel surfaces refer to classic-style porcelain-over-steel markerboards with a vitreous enamel containing powdered glass that is applied and usually baked on for a smooth, durable, non-porous writing surface. This enamel can usually be applied to metals and the porcelain-on-steel markerboards offer the added benefit of a magnetic surface.

Porcelain-on-Steel: Porcelain-on-steel refers to the classic design of magnetic dry-erase boards with a steel sheet finished with a vitreous enamel. The vitreous enamel contains powdered glass and, once applied to the steel, the enamel is baked on for durable finish. The porcelain enamel forms a non-porous, smooth writing surface that retains quality appearance and functions with standard dry-erase markers, erasers, cleaner, as well as magnets.

Radius Corners: Radius corners are rounded for a smooth, softer look and safer design. The rounded corners reduce scratches, injury, bumps, and bruises in busy settings and the non-angled corners reduce tendency to snag clothing or other classroom and office elements.

Rigid Backing: Wallboards with open-style framed designs generally have rigid backing to retain flat surface and shape. The rigid backing protects from warping and damage from exposure to use and the elements.

Solid Oak Frame: Wallboards with solid oak frame have real hardwood frame designs finished in attractive wood stains for lasting color and classic appeal. In contrast to the solid oak frames, wood-look frames are generally not solid wood but create the appearance of a wood frame.

Tambour Doors: Tambour doors are similar to retracting garage doors. The doors have a somewhat flexible design the opens into or behind the cabinet frame for out-of-the-way access. The design may include a single door that opens upward or two doors, as in several conference cabinet designs, that open in the center and both doors slide around the sides for access to the interior of the cabinet.

Enclosed board with Tambour Doors

Tempered Safety Glass: Tempered glass is enhanced or reinforced with thermal and/or chemical treatments to create a safety glass design that resists damage and shatters in a neater granular manner if broken. The concept reduces shard-style breakage in the event of damage to reduce risk of injury.

Wide Base Design: Mobile writing boards and other mobile productivity support with wide base designs have enhanced stability to reduce tipping, wobbling, and other risks while in motion or during use. The wider base stabilizes the taller markerboard or tackboard to reduce tendency to tip or fall.

Wood-Look Frame: The wood-look frame provides the appearance of high-quality wood frame construction at an economical price.

Chemical-Resistant: Many wallboards specify chemical-resistance, indicating the boards are cleanable with standard cleaners without risk of damage, fading, or staining. Board-specific cleaners are available for markerboards to prevent ghosting and staining from frequent use.

Enclosed Boards: Enclosed boards include dry erase markerboards and tackable bulletin boards, as well as letterboards. These boards are enclosed in cases that mount to walls and most enclosed boards lock for security. The office-style enclosed boards have solid doors for concealing the contents, while display boards offer glass or acrylic window panel doors for viewing the displayed contents. Enclosed letterboards include a starter set of white letters, numbers, and characters for use with the precision groove surface.

Green Features: "Green Features" describe environmentally friendly manufacturing process such as the use of recycled components, eco-friendly paints, and "green" environmentally friendly production processes.

Ghosting: Over time, some markerboards tend to show ghosting, which refers to the visible markings of residual ink leftover after the dry eraser has removed the majority of the writing.

Moisture-Resistant: Wallboards of nearly all styles specify moisture-resistance, with backer sheets to seal the backsides of boards to prevent moisture buildup. Moisture-resistance should not be confused with waterproof cases as most display cases are moisture-resistant but not waterproof.

Mounting Hardware Included: Almost all dry-erase markerboards, chalkboards, displays cases, and letterboards include mounting hardware. The included mounting hardware makes it easy to setup and begin using the board right out of the box.

Stain-Resistant: Stain-resistant wallboards resist damage from exposure to elements, cleaning supplies, and use. The markerboards and chalkboards wipe clean with erasers and can be thoroughly cleaned with cleansing spray and cloth to prevent staining and ghosting.

Stand-Off Mounting: Stand-off mounting creates a floating effect by mounting the glass markerboards with edge-grips that keep the back surface off the wall behind it but securely hold the wallboard in place for safe use.
