Blueprint Storage

Styles

Art Storage: Art storage ranges from graphic arts and flat file storage units to standing canvas storage. The portfolio and art storage units with fixed shelves support removable dividers that help keep canvases and works in progress standing upright while they dry or while they wait for the next step.

Expandable Hanging File Storage: Expandable hanging file storage generally refers to the expandable vertical file carts that feature 12 hangers ready to accommodate a range of clamps in sizes from 24”-wide to 36”-wide. Each clamp can hold up to 100 sheets for a storage capacity of 1200 sheets.

Flat File: Flat file storage units include a series of shallow drawers with support features for safely storing artwork, blueprints and drafts. A hood at the back of the drawers keeps papers from lifting and getting caught within the storage unit, and a depressor rod secures papers near the front of the drawer for safekeeping.

Flat-File Drawers: Flat-file drawers have a shallow depth, allowing paper storage without risk of damage to projects and prints, with depressor rod in each drawer to hold pages down and prevent curling.

Graphic Arts Cabinet: Graphic arts storage cabinets have shallow drawers, similar to blueprint and flat file drawers. The 2”-high drawers have a narrow 15½”-width and 21½”-depth for a variety of artwork storage and organizing. The graphic arts cabinets come in different sizes, with individually locking drawers.

Hanging File Wall Rack: Hanging file wall racks mount to walls at desired position and height to support storage of blueprints, drafts, artwork, and other large paper works in progress. The rack supports 12 hangers, which each combine with clamps to hold up to 100 papers each for a storage capacity of up to 1200 sheets.

Open-Front Sliding Drawers: Open-front sliding drawers have drawer-like design to support placement within the drawer glides and storage frame, but without drawer-fronts, allowing more air to circulate for protecting and drying artwork or projects.

Portfolio Storage: Portfolio storage is designed to support standing portfolio folders, files, or satchels. The sturdy frames hold fixed shelves that accommodate removable portfolio dividers to help keep portfolios standing upright.

Roll-File Cart: Roll-file carts support storage of rolled posters, projects, blueprints or drafts. The base has a step-like design, allowing taller papers to sit lower for easier access to shorter papers, and the two-level support design allows rolled papers to fit within aligned spaces to keep each project upright and safe.

Rolling Hanging File Stand: Rolling hanging file stands feature clips and hangers that hold paperwork, artwork, blueprints, or drafts for safe vertical hanging storage. The mobile design is ideal for classrooms and professional settings, allowing works in progress to be safely put away for easy access to continue work.

Roll-Out Paper Storage: Roll-out paper storage comes in open-front and closed designs with flat tray-style drawers that slide out for access. The drawers have sides that support the frame and slider assembly, with no drawer-front for a more open style. The open design provides greater airflow for drying projects.

Stack Trays: Stack trays are shallow storage trays that fit neatly together to store blueprints, drafts, artwork, or other paper products. Stacking trays usually list a maximum safe stacking height, such as stack up to 5’-high.

Vertical Hanging Files: Vertical hanging files are stationary, wall-mounted, and mobile organizing units that allow paperwork, artwork, drafts, and blueprints to be clipped for safe, hanging storage.

Components

Casters: Casters are wheels that support the balanced weight of carts and mobile storage units.

Clamps: Clamps are designed to combine with vertical hanging file units and hangers to support hanging storage of artwork, blueprints, and other large projects. The clamps come in a variety of sizes ranging from 18”-wide to 42”-wide, ready to accommodate a variety of projects. Each clamp can hold up to 100 sheets.

Closed Riser Base: Closed riser base elements resemble simple stage designs or box-like platforms that increase height of the flat-file or similar storage units, lifting the storage unit off the floor. The closed riser base does not usually provide additional storage space like the open riser base will.

Hangers: Hangers combine with rolling and stationary vertical file storage units to support the clamps for holding artwork, blueprints, or other large paper projects. Hangers accommodate varying sizes of clamps for convenience.

High-Density Polyethylene Trays: The stacking storage trays are designed with high-density polyethylene plastic, reinforced with steel for a stronger design and more rigid shape. These trays can hold up to 40-pounds each.

Hinged Front Depressor: Flat file and blueprint storage drawers often contain depressor rods near the front ends of the drawers. The rods are often attached with hinges, allowing them to remain still whenever the drawer is accessed. The depressor rod is lifted, with the aid of the hinge, and the artwork or papers are placed within the drawer, then the depressor is lowered to secure the papers in place, reducing risk of paper curling and damage.

Individual Locks: Many of the locking graphic arts and artwork storage drawers have individual locks, allowing one drawer to be opened at a time while others remain secured.

Label Holder: Flat-file drawers and other storage units may contain built-in label holders, usually centered on the drawer fronts and designed to enhance organizing and storage.

Levelers: Levelers are attachments to the underside of a base or support legs and frame that reduce wobbling on uneven surfaces.

Locks Keyed Alike: Locks that are keyed alike have the same lock and key mechanism, allowing one key to access any drawer.

Open Riser Base: The open riser base is a stand-like component designed to support a storage unit, such as a large flat-file unit. The riser base lifts the file unit off the floor, for easier access, and the open design provides additional storage and organizing underneath.

Rear Hood: Rear hoods enhance storage drawers in select blueprint and flat file storage units. The drawers have a hood component covering the back end of the drawer to prevent papers and artwork or blueprints from lifting, curling, and accidentally getting caught within the drawer compartment.

Removable Wire Dividers: Removable wire dividers are found on the standing portfolio storage units with fixed shelves that each supports a removable divider element. The dividers allow portfolios, folders, and satchels to stand upright, with reduced direct pressure, and without stacking for safer storage. The dividers can also accommodate canvas artwork.

Construction Materials

Damage-Resistant Finish: Laminate and melamine finishes are often described as damage-resistant due to their impact-resistant, scratch-resistant, stain-resistant, and/or burn-resistant properties.

Environmentally Friendly Powder-Coat Paint Finish: Environmentally friendly powder-coat paint finish refers to the dry powder-coating applied to primarily steel components that is then cured forming an eco-friendly finish that resists scratching and damage from regular use.

Finished Back: Storage units with finished backs are designed to accommodate any location, positioned anywhere in a room or office, with or without backside visible.

Oak Veneer Finish: Oak veneer finish is designed with very thin slices of real oak wood, presenting a beautiful wood grain pattern, and finished in a variety of wood stain colors using traditional staining and finishing methods. The oak wood slices are laminated to or bonded to the surfaces of furniture and storage unit panels to create a durable, all-wood appearance and a fraction of the cost.

Pivot Hinges: Pivot hinges allow the hangers to rotate left or right in a vertical hanging file storage unit, accommodating easier placement or replacement of clamps and easier storage of papers, projects, artwork, and prints.

PVC Edge: PVC edge is a plastic strip or band designed to fit over the edges of core panels, concealing rough edges, covering finish and core panel seams, and providing impact-resistance for lasting appearance and use.

Solid Oak Wood Construction: Flat-file and drawer file units composed of solid oak wood have an all-wood design, with real wood panels and drawer-fronts, as opposed to wood products such as MDF core, particleboard, or plywood.

Steel-Reinforced: Steel reinforcement is used in the design of many plastic and other furniture and storage pieces. The polyethylene storage trays, for example, are reinforced with steel for a more rigid structure and increased strength.

Thermal-Fused Laminate Finish: Thermal-fused laminate finish is a multi-layer finish applied with heat and pressure to form a lasting bond to the surface of core panels. The finish is extremely durable, often scratch-resistant and impact-resistant among other qualities.

Welded Steel Construction: Welded steel construction involves the use of heat and welding gear to permanently fix steel parts together, ensuring a long-lasting structure.

Wood Cap: A wood cap is available for wood drawer files and similar storage units, enclosing and protecting the top of the storage unit and providing an additional work surface, if needed.

Features

Courtesy Stop: Courtesy stops prevent storage drawers from coming free from the storage compartment in which they are placed. The courtesy stops stop flat file drawers at their maximum extended positions within the storage unit’s frame, allowing safe access to contents while the drawer remains connected to the storage unit.

Open-Top Design: Blueprint and artwork storage with open-top design allows access to stored contents from the top of the storage unit. The top may be designed within an open frame, or it may have a lid that lifts or slides for top access.

Positive Closure: Positive closure indicates the storage drawers will not simply open when left alone, or if the storage unit is bumped or moved.

Stackable Storage: Stackable storage ranges from the open-style stackable trays to the stackable flat-file and drawer storage units that can be positioned with one on top of another.

Storage Capacity: The listed storage capacity of a blueprint or art storage unit is designed to allow users of the maximum safe storage capacity.
